"Dr Fetus starts to get serious!" -Dr Fetus Dr Fetus Map Icon (AFK Pets and more)

Dr. Fetus is a Pre-Hardmode boss that can be fought after defeating the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu.

While Dr. Fetus is alive, the music Boss 1 will play.

Spawn[ | ]

Dr. Fetus can be summoned by using the Tiny Meat Idol, which has a chance to be dropped by the Corruption or Crimson enemies after the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu have been defeated.
After defeating Dr. Fetus for the first time, the player can buy the Tiny Meat Idol from the Yandare NPC.

Behavior[ | ]

Dr. Fetus has a total of three phases, the third phase being the weakest of them all.
In the first phase, Dr. Fetus will stay still and teleport near the player after using one of his various attack patterns.

Attacks[ | ]

First Phase

  • Four Sawblade Launchers will spawn at the cardinal directions of the player and will start to shoot sawblades while moving.
  • The Sawblade Launchers will persist between attacks or even phases; Although they will despawn after 14 seconds.
  • Eight Warning Symbols appear around the boss, which indicates which direction the giant chainsaws will arrive and if its yellow chainsaw is far and if its red chainsaw is closer and they will be shot with respect to bosses center.
  • twenty explosive rockets will rain down from the sky one after another in both directions of the screen, each one being equally spaced between each other.
  • A red mark will appear above the player's head and it will follow the player's position, which after a small delay, will stop moving and four rockets will be launched at where the crosshair was.

Second Phase

  • In this phase Dr Fetus will become much more agile and do the following attacks in order;
  • He will first slightly fly above and then with respect to the player's direction it will move vertically in fixed velocity and rain down rockets. If he have less than 50% life left these rockets will contain venom extract inside of their fuel and upon exploding they will inflict Venom debuff.
  • He will adjust its location and try to shoot down the player. For protecting himself he will periodically change the distance of its location with respect to the player. After he have less than 50% health he will start to use special type of rockets which are following;
    • At 50% of his health, he will start to shoot special homing rockets with a red trail which after some time will increase in speed but will also stop homing at the player.
    • At 50% of his health, he will also shoot some rockets with electric sparks instead of a smoke trail, and these will go upwards and will try to strike down at the player.
    • At 50% of his health, the standard rockets will be replaced with a special type of rocket that possesses a green trail which will go much faster compared to the former and also inflict poisoned.
  • After some time Dr Fetus will directly do a vertical dash to the player and then continue to rocket down the player. At 50% of his health, the dashes will start to leave a shadow trail behind which deals damage but vanishes after some time.
  • After the shoot down player attack continues few times he will do dashes with respect to players location and after 6 dash he will return back to the first attack. At 50% of his health, the dashes will start to leave a shadow trail behind which deals damage but vanishes after some time.

Third Phase

  • The boss won't attack the player due to his suit is damaged and also won't deal any kind of damage; instead, he will be completely vulnerable with a low health pool and no defense, making the boss extremely weak.
    • If the player doesn't attack the boss for twenty seconds, he will get bored and leave, leaving the Paci-fier as an extra reward for sparing the boss at his most vulnerable state.

Quotes[ | ]

  • Dr Fetus starts to get serious (After reaching his Second Phase)
  • It's now defenseless (After reaching his Third Phase)
  • Dr Fetus got bored and teleported back (If the player doesn't attacks Dr. Fetus in the Third Phase for 20 seconds)

Tips[ | ]

  • Dr. Fetus doesn't move around too much, so any weapon should be able to hit him consistently.
  • True Melee weapons, such as the Light's Bane, will thrive on the first phase since the boss stays still, but won't be useful on its Second Phase because Dr. Fetus will try to stay away from the player while shooting the rockets.

Trivia[ | ]

  • He is a direct reference to the character of the same name from the game Super Meat Boy.
  • The quotes during the boss fight refer to Dr. Fetus as genderless, despite being male in the Super Meat Boy universe. These are probably unintended.
  • The third phase is being implemented after both Super Meat Boy and Super Meat Boy Forever which shows Dr Fetus become extremely vulnerable and not being able to harm other.
