"The sound of scraping against the ground can be heard nearby..."
The Grips of Chaos are a Pre-Hardmode boss duo. They're one of the earliest bosses in the mod, being at the same tier as the Eye of Cthulhu. They are two hand-like bosses themed after The Inferno (the right facing hand) and The Mire (the left facing hand).
Spawn[ | ]
The Grips of Chaos spawns either randomly at night, likely using the same requirements as the Eye of Cthulhu, with the message "The sound of scraping against the ground can be heard nearby..." or by the player using the Curious Looking Claw or the Interesting Looking Claw during the Night.
Behavior[ | ]
Once they are summoned, Grips of Chaos will fight as a pair. After spawning at the top of the screen, the Inferno-themed hand will position itself to the left of the player, and the Mire-themed hand will position itself to the right of the player. They will attempt to stay in that position relative to the player through the fight, only getting out of said position to charge at the player.
Attacks[ | ]
- They will spawn Dragon Claws and Hydra Claws during the battle. These versions are much stronger, having higher attack, HP, and Defense. The Dragon Claw will charge at the player, and the Hydra Claw will follow the player. they will spawn directly on their respective boss, and will continue their attack patterns until they are defeated.
- They will move their vertical height above the player's while still maintaining a steady horizontal position before charging at the player. After this they will attempt to go back to their respective position relative to the player. They don't move much faster than the player, so they will have difficulty catching up. While catching up, they will try not to touch the player until their next charge.
- If a Grip contacts a player during their charge, they will grab them, dealing constant damage before throwing them in a random direction.
- Both the Minions and the Grips can inflict On Fire! and Poisoned Debuff on hit.
Summons[ | ]
Icon | Name | Conditions |
---|---|---|
Dragon Claws | Always until there are four | |
Hydra Claws | Always until there are four |
Notes[ | ]
- Each grip spawns at max 4 Dragon or Hydra claws.
Tips[ | ]
- Since the Grips tend to stay far away from the Player, it's advised to use ranged weapons against them. Unlike the eye of Cthulhu’s servants the grips summons are very tanky so try to stay away otherwise you will be stunlocked
