Gemflies are a type of critter. They give off a small amount of colored light, and do not spawn naturally, only craftable from fireflies and one of the six types of gems found in the cavern layer. They are usable as high-quality bait, and when released in the caverns, will summon the Gigabat after a length of time dependent on both the quality and quantity of gemflies released.
