Spawn[ | ]

Nice Guy does not spawn on his own, and requires the player to summon him with the Nice Mask. He can be fought anywhere.

Behavior[ | ]

Upon being spawned, Nice Guy will appear a few blocks above the player and fall down onto the ground. He primarily remains still for most of the battle, leaving him vulnerable to attack for most of the fight's first phase.

Nice Guy's primary form of movement is a series of five teleports (accompanied by blood particle effects.) The length of these teleports are determined by how far away the player is from Nice Guy - normally very short-ranged, but can teleport long distances if the player attempts to run away. Nice Guy cannot teleport vertically, and he will despawn if the player moves too far above or below him.

Aside from his teleportation, Nice Guy has three primary forms of attacks:

-Nice Guy creates a series of floating circular sigils with crosses within them around the player. The circles themselves deal no damage, but will explode into four "Happifier" bullets fired in the cardinal directions around themselves a second after their generation.

-Nice Guy summons several black smiling masks known as Happy Orbs that chase the player in a series of short dashes before eventually exploding. These Happy Orbs cannot be destroyed.

-Nice Guy fires several Top Hats above him in a spread. These Top Hats can be killed and knocked around, and fire Happifier bullets out of the 'bottom' of the hat's sprite, in a direction set when they are created.

In older versions of the mod, Nice Guy stands still on the ground, and shoots a stream of Happy Fire while summoning 6 Orbiting Masks every once in a while.

Spawn[ | ]

Optime spawns in right after Nice Guy is slain.

Behavior[ | ]

Unlike Nice Guy, Optime stays above the player for almost the entirety of the fight, flying around in tiny circular motions.

Optime's moveset is entirely different from Nice Guy, and consists of the following moves:

-Optime creates several red "Portal of Terror" bullets in the air around him, that hold still for a second before firing towards the player's position. These projectiles have very slight (almost unnoticeable) homing properties, and despawn quickly.

-Optime repeatedly creates several purple diamonds on top of the player that after about half a second explode into Shadowflame tendrils that lash out in both cardinal and diagonal directions.

-Optime charges the player three times, akin to the Eye of Cthulhu's attack patterns. While this happens, several "Optime Splosions" will rapidly appear around him, essentially increasing the range at which his charges can deal damage.

In older versions of the mod, Optime will hover above the player, while Happy Fire (which can now instantly kill the player) flies everywhere.

Strategy[ | ]

Nice Guy is a relatively simple boss in his first phase, hampered by his inability to move vertically. His Happifier cross-shots are almost effortless to avoid at the point in the game where you fight him, assuming your player has a good arena setup, due to the small size of the bullets, so the Top Hats and Happy Masks will be your primary threat. Top Hats should be killed as fast as possible, since they take up airspace and fire in assorted directions. Happy Masks can primarily be avoided by rapidly moving about. Due to Nice Guy's relative lack of movement options, sentries and slow attacks can deal heavy damage to him.

In his Optime form, the pace of the fight increases rapidly, but can still be approached with a similar strategy, albeit becoming more difficult to hit him - fast or homing weapons are thoroughly encouraged. His charges, while taking up a lot of space, are slow and predictable, his shadowflame bursts can be avoided just by moving in large circles, and his Portal of Terror bullets can be avoided by the same strategy. With wings and a sufficiently large arena, Nice Guy can prove incredibly easy for the point of the game you fight him in. Just be careful to avoid contact with Optime at all costs as contact can instakill the player.

Reward[ | ]

Optime drops Pure, Concentrated Darkness upon his defeat, which can be used at a Hardmode Anvil to create assorted darkness-themed gear. In addition, in Expert Mode he also drops "His Top Hat", which has the powerful effect of softening otherwise-lethal damage if you have above half HP (albeit, it's a head-slot item with no other effect, making it far less useful).
