Valdaris, the Harpy Aegis is a Hardmode Boss fought after defeating any Mechanical Boss.

Summoning

Valdaris cannot spawn on his own and is either summoned with a Crest of the Storm or by killing 380 Harpies.

Behavior

Phase 1

Valdaris will chase after the player while randomly cycling between a variety of attacks:

• Valdaris will dash at the player 3-5 times, between each dash he will fire a barrage of storm feathers.
• Valdaris will spin a circle and create a storm whirlwind which slowly follows the player will firing wind feathers in random directions.
• Valadris will fly above the player while firing 4 small bursts of storm feather at them ending with him swooping down at them.
• Valdaris glows purple and casts a large plume of shadeflames which quickly home in on the player.

Phase 2

At 66% health Valadris will enter his second phase, becoming briefly invincible while he enchants himself with shadelight magic adding chance for any storm feathers he fires to became Shadelight Feathers which can redirect themselves once to try and follow the player. Valdaris will now attack in a set pattern which he repeats once reaching the end of:

• Valdaris draws the King of the Storm and flies above the player slashing at them 4 times creating a whirlwind slash with every swing.
• Valadris points his sword at the player and remains stationary while firing a large short ranged barrage of storm feathers at them before charge three times, leaving a trail of splitting storm feathers in his path. He will the above 2 attacks once more.
• Valdaris again flies above the player while holding his sword to the sky calling down a flurry of pandaen daggers on the player, near the end of this attack he will cast another plume of homing shadeflames similar to his first phase.
• Valdaris while fly to one of the four corners around the player and dash at them from that position 5 times, occasionally Valdaris will fly to a corner and not dash to bait the player into moving into his next dash.
• Valdaris will chase after the player while firing bursts of storm feathers along with creating another storm whirlwind.
• Valdaris while cast 4 large spreads of shadelight orbs which linger in place for a short time.

Phase 3

At 40% health Valdaris will enter his third phase, equipping a Rod of Discord and using it to teleport way from the battle and enable Valdabot who remains off screen but provide assistance from afar. Valdaris will also now replace more of his storm feathers with shadelight feathers.

• Valdabot will launch a missile strike at the player with the location each missile will hit being indicated by large blue exclamation points, Valdaris will teleport away during this attack.
• Valdaris will now only swing his sword twice at the player before his charge but will constantly fire small bursts of storm feathers and swoop down at the player between each swing.
• Valdaris' dagger rain will now also be accompanied by dark lightning striking in random positions indicated by small purple exclamation points.
• During Valdaris' corner dashes he will also fire storm feathers at the player and now when faking a dash he will then use his Rod of Discord to teleport to the opposite side of the player leaving 4 homing shadeflames on his original position.
• Valadris now combines his lingering shadelight orbs, storm whirlwind and storm feather burst attacks all into 1, quickly switching between them for a short time.

Phase 4

At 10% health Valdaris will stop fighting, asking the player to quit as well and give them 7 seconds to leave. If the player does not leave after that time the fight will continue. Being fully consumed by shadelight power all of Valdaris' storm feathers will be replaced with shadelight feathers and lightning will constantly strike for the rest of the battle.

• Valdaris will use all his attacks completely randomly with increased speed and occasionally fire the wrong projectiles for the attacks he's currently using as he frantically tried to finish off the player first.

Aftermath

• Using the Mineral Mirror will summon Pandaen Ore.

• Valadaris' theme is The One Eyed Man created by Linx145.
  • If the Valdaris Theme configuration setting is disabled, the vanilla track Boss 1 will play instead.

Bestiary Entry

Acting ruler of the entirety of Harpykind. Valdaris is known by us Terrarians as the only sane birdman left up in the sky. He is the biological brother of King Scifly, and unlike him, was born without those... mental conditions. After the near annihilation of the Harpy race, Valdaris made a pact with a godly being to create a cloning machine and restart the Harpy race. However, Scifly insisted on being cloned and well, all Harpies thereafter were born with some form of mental condition. Valdaris alone is the only Harpy without anything wrong it seems, and it is because of this that he is stigmatised. In the kingdom of the blind, the One Eyed Man is not king, it seems. Val continues to do his duty behind the scenes anyways, while some other insufferable featherbrain steals the credit. I wonder how the Harpies are doing without this guy.
